* In Germany, there are several different types of insurance, i.e. the rental company has taken out separate insurance cover to protect the renter for freak damage where the driver is not at fault, third party cover for people/property and cover for damage to the rental vehicle.
** The compulsory vehicle preparation fee includes the cost for cleaning the exterior of the vehicle and is included in our quotes/bookings. You are still required to return the motorhome with a clean interior, otherwise a fee of up to € 129 will be charged.
The toilet and waste water tanks have to be completely emptied by the time you drop off the vehicle, otherwise € 155 will be charged and further fees apply to cover the costs of emptying the waste water tank.
The compulsory vehicle preparation fee is automatically factored into the total price during the online quote / booking process on our website.
The amount of this fee depends on the vehicle type requested and can be seen in the price box during the online quote / booking process.
This fee includes the following provisions:

- Fresh water tank purification

The following long-hire discounts apply off the daily rental rates and will be automatically factored into the total price during the online quote / booking process on our website:
- 3% for 21 - 30 day hires
- 5% for hires of 31 days and more
You can use the following link to do your online check-in in advance. Fill out your details required for your rental agreement at your leisure and send these to McRent online. The rental company can then prepare your rental agreement in advance of your arrival.
https://www.mcrent.de/speed/login.jsp
You will require the McRent confirmation number in order to complete the online form. You can find this number on your invoice/booking confirmation or travel documents.
When calculating the total price all rental days are added up according to the number of days that fall within each 'season'. The pick-up and drop-off days are counted as one day in total as long as the sum of these two days does not exceed 24 hours, i.e. the rates are counted on a nightly basis in the same way that hotels do this. Every night is charged according to the season that applies to that night.
The cancellation fees apply as stated in Motorhome Bookers' booking conditions.
If the vehicle is collected later than the pick-up day booked, or returned earlier than booked no refunds will be provided.
- Petrol or diesel, propane gas (except for the first fill), running costs (additional oil, water, etc)

*The kitchen equipment consists of: crockery and cutlery for 4-6 people (depending on which vehicle you book), coffee pot, glasses, filters, cutting board, vegetable knife, bread knife, can opener, bottle opener, corkscrew, pots, small pan, bowls.
**Bike racks are free but can only be guaranteed if requested at the time of booking. For the Premium Plus / Luxury models, no bike racks are available, but bicycles can be stored inside the vehicle. Bike racks are not suitable for E-Bikes.
These items can also be rented and paid for when you pick up the vehicle. However, there is no guarantee that they will be available at that late stage.
All rental rates include third party vehicle insurance with cover up to a maximum of € 50 million for damage to third party vehicles as well as separate vehicle insurance for damage caused by the renter to the rental vehicle. The excess that applies to any vehicle damage (damaged caused to the vehicle by the renter) is limited to € 1,200.
For any damage resulting from hail, break-ins, accidents with animals, windscreen damage, etc (i.e. 'external influence' or 'freak' damage excluding damage caused by other people to the rental vehicle) the excess is limited to € 500. Any damage to the tyres or the underbody of the vehicle is not insured and must be paid for by the renter.
Please note: you have to pay the extra charge for winter tyres if hiring between 10 Nov and 25 Mar. Having winter tyres on any vehicle during that time period is required by German law and there will be no insurance coverage otherwise.
The general regulations governing insurance in Germany apply as the foundation for this insurance policy. There are no additional insurance options available to reduce or waive the excess. The excess applies to each incident and will be charged separately if more than one incident occurs.
If an accident occurs with another vehicle or the driver of another vehicle flees the scene, the renter is liable up to the limit of the excess. The excess is deducted in the first instance - regardless of who is at fault.
The excess is deducted separately for each individual incident within the upper limit. It is reimbursed as soon as the rental company receives any damage payments from a third party, which can take some time.
You are required to provide a deposit of € 1,200 (to cover the excess) when you pick up the vehicle and this can only be done with a credit card. Accepted credit cards are Visa and Mastercard for all depots. Please note that pre-paid credit cards are NOT accepted. You will not be able to pick up your motorhome unless you present a valid credit card.
The deposit is deducted from the credit card at pick-up and if the vehicle is returned in good condition it will be credited back. All credit card deductions are processed in Euros. Neither the rental company nor the tour operator is liable to pay any cost differences that occur between the cost of the deducted bond and the reimbursement which result from foreign exchange fluctuations or external fees.
Please ensure you have adequate available credit on your credit card.
The deposit is reimbursed in entirety by McRent as long as the motorhome is returned with full fuel tanks, clean and undamaged. The rental company reserves the right to charge fees for any damage, necessary cleaning fees, a late drop-off and fines incurred during the rental period, etc. These fees are deducted from the credit card in arrears.
All insurance cover is null and void if the terms of the McRent Germany rental agreement are breached. Any damage that is caused when the renter acts outside of the rental company conditions is not covered by the insurance.
Any water and/or saltwater related damage where the renter is at fault is not covered by the insurance. The insurance does not cover damage in the case of any vehicle submersion, the vehicle being stranded in a water area, driving through causeways or beach driving.
Any personal property that is damaged or stolen during an accident, vandalism or a theft is not insured. Private insurance should be purchased in your home country to cover any such issues. In order to avoid theft of personal items from the vehicle it is advised not to leave any valuable items in the vehicle.
In the following cases the renter is liable for the full amount of damage caused either to the rented vehicle or to the property of a third party involved:
- any vehicle submersion or the vehicle being stranded in a water area
- damage resulting from creek or river crossings, driving through causeways or beach driving
- activities that are in breach of the rental agreement conditions, e.g. driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol or dangerous driving
- damage caused by the use of the wrong fuel or when water or oil, etc are not topped up to minimum required levels (causing overheating, frost damage, etc) or where warning signals in the vehicle are ignored
- costs that arise for towing and recovery of vehicles that have been stranded or submerged as a result of the driver's negligence
- vehicle theft due to the driver's or passengers' negligence
- repairs and towing costs that are incurred because of driving on restricted roads or in forbidden areas
- tyre damage that is not a result of faults in the welding
- damage to the interior of the vehicle
- costs for vehicle keys that have either been lost or locked in the vehicle
- if the driver leaves an accident scene or does not report an accident or damage to the police
- damage caused because the driver disregarded height / weight restrictions or the size of the vehicle
- damage due to overloading of the vehicle
- personal property that is damaged in an accident or is either stolen or damaged during theft is not insured
- damage is caused as a result of other people using the vehicle without the permission of the rental company
The renter is liable for any fees, costs, fines or penalties that occur during his/her use of the rental vehicle unless any such costs that have taken place are the fault of the rental company.
If speeding tickets and parking fines and/or accidents, etc (e.g. that have not been mentioned to the rental company) come to light the rental company reserves the right to invoice the customer for these costs in arrears as well as a processing fee or charge their credit card.
The insurance options offered by the rental company do not include luggage insurance, nor do they include cover for any damage to passengers. It is therefore recommended to obtain travel insurance that covers accidents, sickness and loss of luggage prior to departure.
All drivers must have held their driver licence for a minimum of 1 year at the time they pick up the motorhome. For groups with Premium models a minimum of 3 years applies. Drivers from outside the EU who have NO European Driver Licence (such as Australian, New Zealand, American and Canadian licence holders etc.) MUST present an international driving licence at pick-up along with their original national driver licence. Drivers from the EU with a European Driver Licence will only need to present their original national driver licence. We suggest you get in contact with the respective authority for that country before travelling.
Important note for UK licence holders:
From 08 Jun 15, the paper counterpart to the photocard UK driving licence will not be valid and no longer be issued by DVLA. Due to insurance reasons, the rental company requires the information formerly listed on the paper counterpart. You can check your details online www.gov.uk/view-driving-licence no more than 3 days before collection, print a copy of your counterpart and bring it with you when you pick up your vehicle.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
Due to insurance regulations, drivers who present a Korean driving licence only are not allowed to hire a McRent vehicle in Germany. An international driving licence in combination with the Korean licence will not be accepted either.
UK/EU Category B licences as well as most standard licences of most countries are valid for driving the following vehicles only (vehicle weight below 3,500 kg / 3.5 t incl. contents and passengers):
- Urban: Standard, Plus, Luxury models
- Compact: Plus, Luxury models
- Family: Standard, Plus, Luxury models
- Comfort: Standard, Plus, Luxury models
NOTE:
Please note that the following vehicles each weigh more than 3,500kg (3.5t) in total and therefore a driving license with a higher vehicle weight limit is required in Germany to drive these vehicles (European Union Licensing Category C licences as displayed on the 'EU system' photocard licences). Without this endorsement you will not be able to rent one of these vehicles.
- Premium: Standard, Plus and Luxury models
For UK travellers: If you passed your driving test prior to 01/01/1997 (when new standardised European Union driving license categories were introduced) and still have those driving permissions entered in your driving licence you will be allowed to drive up to a total weight of approx. 7,500kg. This information is provided after discussion with the DVLA but please note that we cannot be held responsible for the accuracy of their statements.
Some standard Australian driving licenses allow you to drive vehicles up to 4.5t so please have a close look at your national licence to make sure your licence works within the parameters of your preferred vehicle.
If in doubt, if you have a non-UK/EU licence or you have an EU category B licence and are unsure about anything regarding total weights please just give us a call or send us an email to check which specifications are present in the vehicle you wish to book.
The minimum age for all registered drivers is:
21 years for:
- Urban: Standard, Plus and Luxury models
- Compact: Plus and Luxury models
- Family: Standard, Plus and Luxury models
- Comfort: Standard, Plus and Luxury models
25 years for:
- Premium: Standard, Plus and Luxury models
There are no additional costs for registering additional drivers.
Anyone wishing to drive the motorhome must have their details entered in the rental agreement.
The renter is required to provide the names and addresses of any drivers (even if they only drive the vehicle briefly) to the rental company. The renter is responsible and liable for the actions of any of the other registered drivers.
Before you can receive your vehicle you are required to present a valid driver licence, credit card (compulsory), your passport as well as the Motorhome Bookers voucher at the depot.
Please note carefully the maximum number of passengers allowed per vehicle as per the details provided when you click on the picture of your vehicle or view the vehicle specifications on the Vehicle Comparison page in the McRent Germany section on our website.
The number of seats or beds can vary within any given category.
Please note the information above regarding the driving licence categories and weight restrictions which apply to each vehicle category.
A minimum hire of 5 days applies.
This increases to 10 days for pick-ups during the Peak Season. (Peak season varies from state to state.)
Between 23 Dec and 11 Jan a minimum hire of 14 days applies as well.

Children under the age of 12 are required by German law to be secured in their own special seat. Baby seats, child seats for toddlers and booster seats can be used anywhere in the vehicle as long as the seatbelt fits the seat securely and legally with the 3-point system. These child seats can be attached on any seat in the vehicles - both in the driver's cabin and in the living area wherever the 3-point seatbelt system works.
McRent has baby and booster seats for hire which you can reserve and pay for as part of your online booking with us. You can see the prices during the online quote / booking process on our website.
These items remain the property of McRent and must be returned with the vehicle at drop-off. Please provide us with the age and weight of your child(ren) when you make your booking if you wish to rent one of these. You can only rent them by reserving them in advance with your booking.
Most McRent vehicles can be driven with a standard driving licence category (aside from possible international driving licence requirements - see the section 'Requirements' 'Driving Licence' ).
The following maximum load capacities apply on top of the actual weight of the motorhome in order that the standard European driving licence category B remains legal. If this weight is exceeded a heavy transporter driving licence will be required.
Please contact us if you have any questions about this.
The max. load capacities for each of the vehicles in the McRent fleet are as follows:
- Urban Vehicle: 430 kg
- Urban Standard: 557 kg
- Urban Plus: 500 kg
- Urban Luxury: 555 kg
- Compact Plus: 780 kg
- Compact Luxury: 629 kg
- Family Standard: 579 kg
- Family Plus: 534 kg
- Family Luxury: 630 kg
- Comfort Standard: 619 kg
- Comfort Plus: 569 kg
- Comfort Luxury: 570 kg
The following vehicles require a driving licence that allows you to drive a heavy transporter vehicle.
The maximum load capacities that apply for each vehicle are:
- Premium Standard: 939 kg
- Premium Plus: 1340 kg
- Premium Luxury: 870 kg
The following no longer have to be included in the above totals:
Driver, fuel, fresh water, 2 x 11L gas bottles, electricity cable reel, awning, bike racks and radio/CD player. No insurance cover is given if the maximum weight conditions are not upheld.
NOTE: confirmations are only ever provided according to a certain category, but not for a specific size or vehicle brand/design within the booked category. Even though all vehicles come with very similar designs and layouts variations can sometimes occur within any given vehicle category in terms of design, colour, size, measurements, floorplan (interior decor, layout, bed size, etc).
This can lead to variations in the load capacity allowed.
All information provided here is based on the information provided to us by the rental company. We cannot be held responsible for any errors or miscommunication that may occur and the information on our website can be amended at any time without prior notice.
The vehicles are only permitted for use on sealed, public, official roads. You can drive your motorhome within Europe at no extra cost.
If you wish to drive to Eastern European or Non-European countries you are required to obtain prior approval from the rental company. Please inform us of your intention when you make your booking.
You cannot - even if you have additional insurance - take a McRent motorhome to Northern Africa or to the Asian areas of Russia east of the Ural.
Some of the McRent vehicles are equipped with a GPS that will allow the company to locate the vehicles in case of theft.
It is forbidden to drive the motorhome to any country in a state of war or in another crisis.
Anyone who drives on unsealed or prohibited stretches of road or to forbidden areas or countries does so at his/her own risk. The renter is liable for any costs of repairs, retrieval or towing that are a result of break-downs or accidents in these areas and no insurance cover is provided. The vehicle is also not allowed to come in contact with salt water.
Note: Please check with the authorities or automobile association of the country in question to make sure you are aware of any special driving rules that may apply there.
E.g. Austria charges a toll for any vehicles that are heavier than 3,500kg (3.5t) which varies in price depending on where you drive. For vehicles that are lighther than 3,500 kg the normal Austrian road tax sticker applies and needs to be purchased as soon as you enter Austria at the latest.
Motorhomes weighing more than 3.5t / 3,500 kg that are driven on motorways or other expressways there require a so-called 'Go-Box' which calculates the toll. You can obtain the Go Box at certain shops near the Austrian border for a € 5 rental fee (according to the Austrian Automobile Association 'ARCD'). Every renter receives an information sheet outlining this situation when they pick up the vehicle which they are required to read and sign to show acceptance of the conditions.
One-way rentals (vehicle pick-up at location 'A' and drop-off at location 'B') are not available.
All of the rental vehicles (except for the categories 'Urban' and 'Compact') can handle winter conditions, i.e. they are built with a reinforced floor, etc. You can also order snow chains and winter profile tyres for a fee when you make your booking. In the winter months the facilities such as shower, toilet, etc can be used.
Please note, however, that there is no insurance cover provided if any damage occurs as a result of freezing, etc, e.g. if you do not maintain a high enough average temperature in the vehicle to avoid damage to tanks, water heating apparatus and hosing this will count as negligence and there is no insurance cover then provided, i.e. the renter will be fully liable to cover all costs incurred.
Please allow for the fact - when planning out your route, that camping grounds in certain areas may close during the winter. Some roads, especially in alpine areas may also be closed for driving or may be simply too dangerous to drive on.
McRent insists on winter profile tyres being used between 10 Nov and 31 Mar. The costs are factored into the total price automatically during the online quote / booking process on our website.

The rental company reserves the right to charge the renter for any loss of revenue incurred as a result of such delays in the return of the motorhome, e.g. if another customer is made to wait or miss out on their vehicle due to this delay.
The rental company does not allow a renter to effectively alter the rental agreement by extended use of a vehicle beyond the booked drop-off date.

No additional rental costs will be charged in this case. If McRent is forced to provide you with a smaller vehicle than the one you have booked they will reimburse the difference. Any additional costs such as higher petrol costs, tolls or ferry costs, etc will not be reimbursed. This does not allow you to cancel the booking.
